They have been serving at our donut socials for the past few years. It has truly been a family affair with many generations offering to volunteer.
As Catholics, we are called to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His Church by word and deed. This includes the duty to share our material possessions justly with fellow members of the Body of Christ, as well as with any person in need.
The mission of SJA’s Hands of Christ (HOC) Committee is to support charitable groups and people or families with urgent needs within our parish geographical boundaries, along with needs outside of our community. These needs include those that the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis and the Holy See ask us to support. The HOC's second Sunday collection, and distribution of these funds, help us to live this precept of the Church, as well as to provide a positive witness of Christian charity to those who do not yet participate in full communion with the Catholic Church.
SJA’s HOC Committee meets six times a year (every other month) to allocate the funds received through the two previous second Sunday collections. There are seven lay committee members and each member is asked to serve a three-year term, starting on July 1, and ending on June 30, in alignment with our fiscal year. Committee members must be registered SJA parishioners in good standing and contribute at least $100 annually to the Hands of Christ fund.
